Not that I want to start a discussion, but that sounds pretty contradicting to me ;-) 

There are some good reasons for that:

1. Leopard's implementation of workspaces is not that good
2. with more workspaces I would forget what is where
3. I can switch with just one hand
4. they will fit in a single screen in the general view keeping things recognizable (and the Macbook's integrated graphics can handle this) 


Before Leopard I used DesktopManager, just for that cool spinning cube :-)
