Howdy,

Hi guys,
I just asked on the main mailing list who maintained the website. I
did not yet receive an adequate answer. The reason I asked is that one
of the websites I run has been victim of an attempt of hacking.
Fortunately, things were up to date and properly locked up, but since
Waldemar left, I have the feeling that no one keeps the software up to
date.
(For instance, I know that Trac is at revision 0.10.14 already, and I
don't remember drupal ever being updated).
Upgrading the existing website to the latest version of Drupal would be
a major undertake. I highly doubt that you will be able to do an
automated upgrade, as at least one of the (major) modules used in the
website has not been upgraded to Drupal 5.x.
I was actually hinting at upgrading/updating to the latest bug-fix
release, including those of the modules. Any idea what version is
currently installed?
According to a recent email from Gavin, we are at 4.7.7. The impression
that I had from that message was that Gavin was going to upgrade to the
latest 4.x version soon.
You will also have to finish porting the Haiku theme. I started doing
the port and an unfinished version is being used in www.norcal-hug.org,
but it still has many problems that may not be easily fixed.
What exactly do you want or expect to gain from a major upgrade that
would justify the effort?
Like I said, someone attempted to hack me, and as such, I want to
prevent that happening to the haiku website too. In this spirit, it is
indeed that I offered help to keep up to date, which seems like a good
idea.
Ah, ok! Well, no CMS is perfect, even when it is up-to-date. So while it
is always a good idea to be the latest, the best is to have a full
backup of the files in the server, and to make regular backups of the
DB. If the worse hits, you can quickly recreate the site from your
backup(s).
Cheers,
Koki
