Hi gang,
I just finished the last known issues with Haiku's drupal theme for
Drupal 5.x. The theme is no longer an obstacle in upgrading to a new
Drupal version.
As there is not yet a new host, I suggest we perform the upgrade of
Drupal on our current web service. There is nothing that restricts us
from doing so.
The purpose of upgrading to Drupal 5.x is:
- Stay up to date with the latest security fixes. This by itself is a
justification for persueing the upgrade.
- Give us some additional features, most notably the use of secure
smtp which will allow us to migrate our mail to Google.
- Prepare an upgrade path to Drupal 6. This is not a straight upgrade
path, but that is for a later discussion.
I have previously attempted a test upgrade and I documented this
extensively. For those with access to the Website wiki on
dev.haiku-os.org, check it out at
http://dev.haiku-os.org/wiki/Website/Drupal5Migration
I am going to do another test upgrade, since we are now at drupal 5.15
and the previous upgrade was done at drupal 5.9. I'm also going to
continue my hunt for updated modules.
When I succeed, I hope we can set a date (or a weekend preferably) to
perform the upgrade with the help of the community. I noticed that
there is indeed some manual fine tuning, and we can use all the help
we can get.
Kind regards,
Niels
