Keeping the front page for Haiku project-only news is a good thing IMO. As you said, there are enough news sites around eager to post everything they get their hands on. :) No need for additional competition. Although, I always thought a block with the last 5 headlines of a randomly cycled news site á là BeBits would be a good idea.
I'd limit the non-project news to only really BIG news, like "Gobe is back", "Java is here", "Steinberg's second try" etc.
On the other hand, I know there has been some desire to bring the community into the same area and try to combine it into a large collaborative website. In this case, though I would almost suggest we branch into a subdomain.. community.haiku-os.org or something, I dunno.
What else do you have in mind for a community site? Pretty much the only occasionally visited forums (that I'm aware of) in Haiku-Space are on haiku-os.org and maybe Haikuware. I think there's enough capacity for a big increase in users. At the moment, as the GSoC interviews' lack of comments attest, the Haiku community is, sadly, vanishingly small. A "bigger" site might make this fact even more depressingly obvious.
Do I sound bitter? Nah... just sayin'... :) Regards, Humdinger -- --=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=- Deutsche Haiku News @ http://www.haiku-gazette.de ----------------------------------------------------------------------- haiku-web@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Haiku Web & Developer Support Discussion List
