Hi gang,
I put some work in a team roadmap for October/November.
#1 Gallery update
=====
Remi has been working on implementing a new tool. The old gallery (G2)
is slow and does not scale well in case of major events (such as
Slashdotting). The new gallery can be tested at
http://testwebsite.haiku-os.org/about/gallery . Remi wrote some custom
PHP that acts as a front-end for Picassa (where the pictures are
stored). He has been working on browser compatibility and we think it
is nearing release quality. Please test the test gallery with your
favourite (and less favorite) browser - especially looking for IE6 -
and report back on how it works.
Target release date: Next week (week 44).
Open tasks: After the release, check for any broken links; upload the
begeistert pictures.
#2 Memory for dev.haiku-os.org
=====
Scott Palmer from unixheads.org told me that the server that
dev.haiku-os.org can be upgraded with some memory. This might improve
our performance for now and in the future. There is place for 8GB, 1
GB DIMM costs around $70, and the server owner had offered to match
every GB we add with one of his own.
Urias has suggested to pay this from the Haiku Inc. funds, but I
personally think this is a perfect sponsorship opportunity from our
community, and I would like to start a fundraising (to raise a maximum
of 280 dollars) to pay for the DIMM's. Opinions?
While the server currently hosts dev.haiku-os.org, it might in future
gain more tasks, so IMO it is a good investment. It also shows our
partners that we are grateful for the services they offer
I'm looking for someone to be the organizer of this fund raising. Work
would involve setting up an announcement, working with Urias or
someone else of the Haiku Inc. transition team to organize the
financial part and to keep track of the fundraising. This is a nice
little job for someone who has some time and wants to help out.
#3 Main website move
=====
The main website still has to move to a new server. Additionally,
there is also an upgrade to Drupal 5.7 in the pipeline. I'm still in
favour of doing both at the same time. I want to do this before alpha
1, and preferably in a weekend. I would like to know everybody's
availability for the weekend of week 45 (8th and 9th of November). The
best way to take care of this is through a team effort. More details
will follow on this one.
Anyway, thanks for all sticking with me!
Niels
