I wouldn't like to add that patch - it's something that only very very
few people would ever want to use IMO. I hope it's okay to keep that
change locally to your installation.
However, for this kind of customizations, maybe a patch repository
would be nice to have - where you can choose between different patches
to the mainline that did not or not yet found their way into the trunk.
