Guessing you cloned from github rather than the official git
repository. If you build from a clone without tags, it will fail to
version your haiku package appropriately (there are no hrev versions).

The only thing I am finding in .git directory are references to clone: from
https://git.haiku-os.org/haiku

However, I am not convinced that the git pull was successful.  I believe it
may have been interrupted before fully completing.  Is there a way to force
git pull to recheck and reset to master?

Looks like I read the error backwards - your haiku package appears to
be looking for a different version of freetype than you have already.
