On the mentor list I discussed the possibility of getting a remote server so students (and others) could develop from a known environment that mentors could access too. It would also not require to rely on the students configuration which might not always be fast enough for builds. By experience, the usual remote servers available are often way faster than my not so old AthlonXP 1.5GHz... QEMU + vnc is also quite usable. It could be possible to rent something from http://www.dedibox.fr/ http://www.kimsufi.com/ for the summer and see how it goes... Thoughts ? François.
