I was surprised to find that when using a PC USB keyboard with a Mac,
the *Windows* key are used as Command keys

(Unlike the standard BeOS keymap which uses the Alt keys as the Command
key, MacOS X allows Alt-Gr key (right hand side Alt key) present on
many keymaps, to do what it's supposed to do, which is to produce the
3'rd set of characters of my Swedish keyboard: @£${[]}\~|. Characters
important to a lot of people. I have mixed feelings on this issue. I
don't think there's ever going to come a perfect time to switch. I
should probably learn to like Ctrl again.)

When plugging a USB keyboard MacOS X asks you to press the key to the
right of the left hand side Shift key, and uses this to guess which of
ISO (european), ANSI (american) and JIS (japanese) your
keyboard is. It also asks you to plug a mouse or keyboard if either one
is missing. I would like that level of polish and smarts eventually.
