Don't worry, "-q" is absolutely harmless :-)
It must be something else, then - I'm just a bit out of ideas.
How do the attributes of those files look like? Can you do a "listattr"
on one of them to seen if the icon is there?
Also, is there anything in the serial debug output of qemu that hints
there are any icon related problems? (option "-serial stdio")
