No, it doesn't.
Contrary to what some keep saying, Haiku is not a community driven
project, but a developer driven one. That is, the people that are
doing the actual work get to vote on the direction. Sure, the user
community can be asked for their opinion to make informed decisions,
but I don't think this topic is well suited for that.
ABI/API compatibility is a difficult issue and many developers
apparently have a hard time grasping all implications completely. I
definitely don't. Going by uninformed popular opinion won't help.
All fair points. Then we need to as developers "nominate" those we agree
should hold decision making power. Currently we do things by shotgun
consensus without knowing what and whom to wait on a +1 from.
These are all likely reasons why the major things rarely get done.
I generally go to "community input" because I've been given no other
guidance on making major decisions. Since the community responds a
lot more than developers sometimes (no fault, but it's true) if I
don't engage with the community and try to appease them I end up
looking like a bossy a**hole.
I (we) just want a release :-(
