After all this is a volunteer project. Even if we could more or less 
precisely estimate how many hours of work the remaining tasks would take, 
it's virtually impossible for people to guarantee that they can invest a 
certain amount of spare time. Real life would almost certainly interfere and 
ruin all the beautiful plans.

When all blocking issues are solved we can set a deadline, create a release 
branch, and only make changes in it that resolve bugs or "polish" things.
