How restricted is the universe in which it searches for the attribute?
I'd moved the earlier Haiku system to the Trash rather than deleting it,
in case I wanted to restore or examine it after the update...
[I see it uses a 'security code' to make sure it gets the right replicant,
but maybe in my sequence of actions I got the code attached to the wrong one.]
Anyhow, to finally close this saga down, while I was looking at the source
I found that desklink can either work on the mixer or 'direct audio output'.
Then I found there is an item in the Volume Control that I hadn't noticed
before -- "Options" was set to 'direct output'! When that got changed,
I don't know, but flipping it back fixed everything! (Guess the second
option doesn't work on the Crystal chip. Might be nice to have a better
indication than an unuseable slider, though!)
Sorry about the convoluted journey. Amazing how one can miss what should
be fairly obvious...
