Well, it seems what has happened is that I have essentially lost the 'Option' key. Throughout the history of BeOS, whatever keyboard I've had, the right-Control key has equated to 'Option'. The Alt keys have not been distinguishable. On this latest rev, that's not longer so. I eventually found that pressing *both* Alt keys now equates to 'Alt-Opt', but that is definitely *not* a good idea! On any other system, the alts are not distinguished, so the effect would just be the same as pressing one of the keys. In the case of 'Alt-T', which is what was concerning me here, that just sends things to the Trash!! I notice that the Keymap Preference now has a selection between 'Windows/Linux' and 'Haiku' shortcuts, but so far I haven't detected any consequence of changing that. My feeling is that this whole business of "special keys" needs a bit harder thinking. Be was pretty sloppy about it, and things haven't changed much... More (and clearer) user options are probably the answer. -- Pete --
