No, no, sarcasm on the internet never scans across cultures. I'd just assume
that most of the European speakers of English learned the BBC English
formalisms that sometimes come across as idiomatic in other dialects. My
collegiate studies were in linguistics... my friends at home are from
everywhere, no worries.
