[haiku-development] Re: Summer of code aplication review

Thanks for these links, they are interesting and will probably help
designing a perfect interface.

I found some time to quickly look at the code of the network preflet and
added more details on the technical side in my application.

Is it better now ? :)

Project description :
Unfortunately I am just finishing my synthesis project this week so I did
not have many free time to look at the code of the application.
To acomplish this project, the following steps will be needed :

-Build a paper prototype for the interface and discuss it with he mentor
(and possibly other people if they want to participate). The prototype will
be done with some drawing program (i think i will use Inkscape on Linux).

-Get the needed documentation about the API elements needed to implement the
designed interface. Look at the existing code, both in the Network Preflet
and other applications. Read the BeBook :).

-Alter NetworkWindow.cpp to add support for locations and connections types
: selecting a connexion type will change the view displayed in the window.
Selecting a location will change the data displayed in the view's fields by
making the view read the data somewhere in a configuration file. This
configuration file should be human-readable if possible.

-Build an interface for the PPP settings and use it to test setting types
(we need at least 2 profiles types for testing). This interface will be a
view, implemented like the EthernetSettingsView, with the appropriate
fields.

-Plug the PPP interface to the actual PPP configuration. See how is this
configuration done (text files ?).

-If needed in the designed prototype, move the "Apply" and "Revert" button
to the main "Network Preferences" view and remove them from the
connections-specific views.

-If there is some time left, make another view with WiFi preferences. As
there is no Wifi stack in haiku now, this one will be hard to test. But the
interface still can be designed even if it doesn't write to any
configuration file.
