Hi Stephan,

Andrej and I are just interested in comments from more people about
what
looks better to them and why.
You asked for opinions, and I regret to say that from those four
screenshots I still like the screen_gray.png best, because I find the
colored pixels surrounding black text disturbing, especially for the
word "These" (redish left side of T and both redish and blueish
between h and e; but I think I find the bright cyan (e.g., top h)
worst, maybe I'm getting old...). For the regular UI text it's less
striking but also noticable here and there. This is on an LG L204WT
20.x" @ 1680x1050 connected via DVI.
On OSX (same monitor) I have the Automatic setting enabled and do not
notice such colored pixels, so I may simply not be used to seeing them.
For comparison I checked on a Vista machine with ClearType enabled:
Colored pixels were noticable in, e.g., Explorer but apparently less
color-intensive. Different monitor of course though, an Eizo L550 17"
@ 1280x1024 connected via DVI.
So, being able to toggle or slide between the variants sounds like a
good idea, given that there will be different perceptions on the topic.
Andreas
