Already implemented. :-) For example the labels on the icons are white on 
blue. As you can see in the Pe window, colored text on white background 
works as well, and would work equally well even on non-uniformly colored 
background. Even the text itself could have non-uniform color.

Yes, we are aware of that. To enable the feature on Haiku, one has to turn 
on a Freetype config option in the source, which has a note about patents 
attached. I posted a more comprehensive mail to the commit list.
