Well, you need to set the desired options in the GUI first, but you
only need to do that only once because they will be saved in the
settings file. The new way is therefore more flexible, because as user
you can actually change the modifier+PrtScrn behaviour.

No need to be sorry, this is software, we can change it any way we want to :-)

I do, however, believe that what you want is still possible, but maybe
I misunderstand what you are saying. Bringing up the GUI when pressing
the PrtScr without modifiers is I believe what most users would
expect.

[S]hift-PrtScr => [S]ilent mode, [C]trl-PrtScr => [C]lipboard, isn't
this much easier to remember as well?

Of course, if you really want to, a [A]lt-PrtScr = [A]ctive window is
still possible I suppose, but then the question is what do want to do
with the screenshot: launch the GUI, save it, or copy it to clipboard?
Whatever you choose, there will probably someone else with a different
opinion.
