To be honest, I think one can overthink even the simplest things :-)Since a spinner is not always a number spinner, but can also spin between any arbitrary set of data, the arrows are much more versatile than -/+. And I would definitely prefer a general solution that works with all spinner use cases over having specialized controls.
I don't buy that anybody would have issues even with using X/Y arrow spinners in a coordinate space correctly.
And lastly, aren't there bottom to top languages, too? Chinese?
Not Chinese, and nothing we'd ever have to support (like some ancient hieroglyphs) :-)
