Actually, the way to do that is to settle on a "long life" reference board - that is guaranteed to be manufactured/supplied for a long time. For example something from this site: http://www.chassis-plans.com/industrial-motherboards.html Otherwise within 3-6 months, the "reference platform" could become totally unavailable. There should be plenty of sources of such "long life" boards out there. - Urias
