----- Original Message ----- By Axel In the mean time, we should just not advertise to use any non-standard Haiku builds (by hiding them more), and don't actively support them by providing GCC4 only or hybrid packages for problematic software like libSDL. Also, the better our actual releases are, the more likely it is that they will actually be used as a base for software development; if a developer doesn't make sure his software works on a release, it's just a very sloppy developer that should be tared and feathered -- instead of putting the burden to everyone else. I agree here that reducing the available choices for nightlys might be very beneficial. Especially the gcc4 and gcc4h revisions. I don't mind taring and feathering. Must be a german thing. If you want to start an unofficial rating/logo/certification program, you'll certainly have my blessing, but it really shouldn't be part of the Haiku project. Bye, Axel. Would it be possiable to get the advice and consent of the core group of voting rights developers here on a minimum spec ? This may not sound important to you, but for this idea to have any value, it must come from the people with the voting rights. At this junction it would make sense to see a minimum spec, one which abides by the design of the package managers constraints, to be put forth. This will resolve 2 primary issues I see here. One of these issues is that packagemanagement is comming, better to get the apps compliant now and working towards that goal. The second issue is to clean up the polution of the file system and broken software. If you could please as a group hand down a specification and some sort of policy and how to go about creating a rating system that does not violate the haiku-os and haiku inc IP. A group could be assembled to handle the rest of this task while taking little of the time of the group. I am glad this conversation has occured and it seems to have cuaght the attention of a few of the 3rd party devs already. Maybe just have the conversation is enough. Sorry for the (b)(u)(i) my web mail client is a pita with qouting. Sean
