My personal beef with installers is not the copying of
files to a single location (similar enough to unzipping,
which can be seen as reasonably atomic)
but common peeves:

- binary installers which can't be inspected pre-install
- file-spread / mixing of packages / in system folder
- running of scripts
- unwanted system integration
- dysfunctional uninstalls.

I don't have a problem with the idea or impression of
installation, as long as its user-initiated. (I'd rather
not have bundles integrate with the system silently
say on download or when mounting removable media).
