As you may know, there are no plans for a BeGeistert in 2017. Low
attendance last year and yet another raise of prices at the Düsseldorf
youth hostel where is is usually held means it is not interesting
anymore to run the event.
However, coding sprints for Haiku are still a good thing, and these
should continue to happen.
I have asked some local associations for a way to organize one here.
Originally I planned to do it at around the same dates (november or so),
but it turns out there is already an event we can use for this.
The THSF [1] (Toulouse Hacker Space Festival) is a gathering of hackers on
various things (code, art, electronics, ...). It is hosted every year by
Tetalab (local hackerspace) at Mixart Myris [2], an artist squat inside an
old factory building (yes, that is unusual).
Unfortunately, this event is planned for 25 to 28 of may, aka "real soon
now". Which means we have to decide rather quickly if there is enough
interest or not.
The place features:
- A room dedicated to the "hackerspace residence", where people gather
from various projects to work on their things. We would share this
with other people working on other projects.
- A sleeping area, and food at reasonable prices (free if possible, but
they may ask for a contribution if there is too much people to feed)
- A very fast internet access. The building hosts a local ISP datacenter,
and as such has fiber wired directly to the internet backbone.
They can easily host a team of 4/5 persons, and can try to arrange
something if there are more people interested.
So, who would be interested in visiting? I understand that it may be a
bit late to organize this for this year. Maybe we can wait for the 2018
edition instead if there is not enough available people this time.
