There is no compelling reason appart eye candy, and that's not
something we really push for.
Most of the times is just used for eye candy, but there are a lot of
possibilities to use it in a more productive way, like some Mac apps do.
One just need to go above the usual "square boxes" way to imagine a GUI.
It's funny how in Vista, transparency is used in the worst possible ways...
Possibly a rendering backend using
accelerated OpenGL would allow that in the future...
This is definitively the future. If you dig a bit into OSX' APIs, you
see the possibilities are endless.
