If I can say my vision, Edit->Preferences just _sounds_ good, but it's not a good choice; the Edit menu should be used to edit the document, and nothing else. In some languages (or some translations) it just sounds terrible. And there's always this confusione between Preferences and Options.

I find the Apple way the preferable, and once you get used to, you always find different placements odd.
A separate menu with the application's name would also be OK in my opinion. Actually this makes a lot of sense as it also gets rid of other oddities, like Exit in the File menu etc.

Yes that's true. And IMHO placing Preferences in "Tools" or "Extras" is very uninspired. I like the app menu idea. ZETA was going the same direction.

I also like the app menu idea; however, I prefer using an icon to identify the menu as it was done with some of the applications that came with Zeta 1.21. If most applications use an icon in the menu bar for the app menu, most users will become accustomed to it, and there will be no problem with users ignoring it.
