Not sure why, but the VGA mode was indeed broken before r32141.
And that's probably what you see on that image, because the boot logo 
certainly never worked there, if your chip has the same output as 
Gerald's.

Which is actually the case, as we don't support window mode, we need a 
linear frame buffer.
Now we could add support for this, but I don't think it's worth it.
