Hello, I'm David Brotz. I'm currently a junior at Depaul University and am planning on getting a computer science degree. For my proposal I want to work on adding write capabilities to several file systems. I also noticed that a few of the file system implementations are written in C and I was thinking of rewrite them into C++.
While that might be a worthwhile goal, you should try hard not to put too much on your plate at once. Adding write support in file systems can become quite an adventure. You should look into the file systems that exist, and that need work, and estimate how much work it would be to add write support to them, and also which would be the most interesting file systems to work on -- both in terms of what you may learn on the go, as well as which one might be important for most of the users.
Maybe you want to add a completely missing file system instead (like, for example XFS support).
In any way, if you have several ideas, you can and should also write more than one proposal. But if you do, you should mark the one that is most important to you, if such a proposal exists.
Also keep in mind that we require our students to put some actual work into Haiku before we can accept any proposal; there are plenty of bugs waiting to be investigated, or maybe there is some small thing you don't like in Haiku, and what to improve it.
Bye, Axel.
