I would be interested in being a mentor, if not for Alexey then for
next year's GSoC.

I did quite a lot of BeOS programming, and have been gradually working
with Haiku.  Being a mentor would actually help me to learn Haiku in
more depth - there is no better way to learn a subject thoroughly than
to teach someone else about it.

I did some SCSI CAM scanner drivers for the BeOS, and have quite a bit
of experience with Mac OS X and embedded storage drivers.  Overall I
have twenty-two years experience as a coder.
