I think I already stated that I would be OK with this as a reasonable
alternative if things got too muddy.
To cut this ac3 thing out, the ac3 stuff in FFmpeg trunk is licenced as LGPL.
So we can just leave out ac3 for now, and include it in further releases.

Are you sure about that?  The ac3 code in ffmpeg is based on the
liba52 library which is GPL.

There are still references to liba52 last I looked.

Our ac3 decoder is based on it as well.
