The volume bar used to be green to indicate sound is available and on. It is
dark grey when muted. It should be ghosted when no sound is available. This
feature was lost somewhere along the lines when bringing the BeOS interface up
to date in the VLC releases, like some other nice features that I had going
during the VLC 0.4.3-0.4.6 times...

That is a problem I am aware of. The seeking problem is in the AVI addon I
would assume and the sound stopping somewhere in the middle of the video should
be a MediaPlayer bug.
