Basically all that was required to make Haiku work in VirtualBox was to download the latest raw image, unzip it, and then use VBoxManage to convert the raw file to VDI format: $ VBoxManage convertfromraw -format VDI haiku-alpha.image haiku-alpha.vdi
You can even save this step when using Haiku's vmware images. There's also Alexander von Gluck's guide at http://unixzen.com/index.php?url=article/view/running-haiku-os-in-virtualbox which is a bit more involved as he installs from one image to another, but it still has useful pointers for simpler endeavours.
