In BeOS and Linux I use separate per project .profile and .bash_history
with
http://dev.haiku-os.org/browser/haiku/trunk/3rdparty/mmu_man/scripts/dev-perso
Works like a charm, and I have like
$ dev | wc -l
18
projects here.
Helps keep things isolated :)

It should probably also work on OSX too.
