Hi Niels,
Thanks for your help.

At first I wrote up this huge long discussion of everything I wanted
to blog and why each item would apply to Haiku. When it was getting
to five or six pages I decided to do what every good writer does when
his work gets too verbose:
I murdered each and every one of my precious little babies.
Instead I'll just post the executive summary:
I was BeOS developer id 6922. My product Spellswell from Working
Software won me an Honorable Mention in the Be Master's Awards.
I've been a software engineer for twenty-one years, coding in many
languages, for many instruction set architectures, with many
toolchains and on many different operating systems:

My resume doesn't list my current job. I maintain the Mac OS X device
drivers for Applied Micro Circuits Corporation's 3ware line of
hardware RAID controllers:

As to what I want to blog. I have several project in mind for Haiku:
I just posted a mail called "My First Haiku Project?" suggesting that
I take over development of the Haiku LiveCD. While there *is* in fact
a LiveCD, in a manner of speaking, it's not actually usable by
end-users.
My objective is to make a flawlessly reliable LiveCD, and enable new
versions to be generated and *tested* automatically any time anyone
checks any new code into Haiku's CVS.
And of course, to provide an image that we can be proud to offer for
download from Haiku's website.
My main project right now is:
Ogg Frog - Free as in Freedom Audio Software
http://www.oggfrog.com/free-music-software/
I aim for Ogg Frog to eventually do everything iTunes does, but to it
all *better* than iTunes does, and to support *every* platform it
conceivably can. iTunes only supports Windows and Mac OS X.
Ogg Frog presently runs on Windows and Mac OS X. It's next build will
run on BeOS 5 Pro. That build *should* run on Haiku unmodified, but
maybe it will stimulate some Haiku bugs that I can help fix.
Ogg Frog is built on the ZooLib C++ Cross-Platform Application
Framework, which supports BeOS
http://www.zoolib.org/
I'll ensure that ZooLib works on Haiku as well, and in particular that
one can build Haiku software from ZooLib using the tools that come
built-in with Haiku.
I was the lead developer of the Word Services Suite for
Interapplication Spelling and Grammar Checking. It works on the Mac
OS via Apple Events and on BeOS via BMessages.
It's still supported on the Mac by several applications, but the Suite
itself has been unmaintained since 2000 and in particular the Software
Development Kit hasn't been available online since 2001. I plan to
remedy those and in particular make sure that the SDK and my own
product Spellswell work flawlessly on Haiku:
http://www.goingware.com/word-services/
I'm an expert with FireWire storage, in particular SCSI and the Serial
Bus Protocol 2. My understanding is that while Haiku does have basic
FireWire support, SBP2 is either not yet implemented or doesn't work
reliably.
(SBP2 is used to transport SCSI Command Descriptor Blocks (CDBs) over
the FireWire bus.)
Whatever state Haiku FireWire is in, I expect I can improve it and if
FireWire storage isn't implemented or doesn't work reliably, I can
implement it and make it work flawlessly and fast.
And finally, I have it in mind to write a Haiku device driver for a
certain PCIe (PCI express) card that I own. Unfortunately I cannot
say what it is yet, and expect I won't even be able to tell you what
it is until my driver is actually released.
I would prefer that this driver be Open Source, but I may not have
that choice, as I don't own the card's Intellectual Property. I'll
pitch my case, but the decision will ultimately be up to the card's
vendor.
My driver will be at least free-as-in-beer, and this particular card
is a top-quality product, and would be useful to many Haiku users.
========================
Now try to imagine what the long version of this was like, the one
full of all the babies that I murdered!
Hope That Helps,
Mike
