If we want to get fancy, we could run the buildmaster on haiku hardware, and
have a few buildslaves in AWS.
I'm guessing the server requirements aren't very large - we could
probably run it on one of our existing VMs - or even baron directly if
no better place (note: our buildbotmaster currently runs on baron
directly, we could probably couple the two services together and move
them to a dedicated VM).
As for the slaves - I have two physical machines already dedicated as
hpkg builders, and I can throw more at it if necessary. My challenges
include the following:
- Power usage: power isn't cheap where I live - but I'm in the process
of installing a 10kW PV system to substantially offset my power bill
:)
- Heat dissipation: right now, all slaves (buildbot or hpkg) run in my
home office, which isn't a huge room, and it gets pretty hot here in
the summer. I plan to move them to other parts of the house sometime
this summer if possible.
- Upstream bandwidth: my connection is a pathetic 6mbit DSL line with
~512kbit upstream. Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll be enjoying
a fiber connection that is being constructed past my neighborhood.
I think the biggest limiting factor at the moment is man hours... we seem to
have a surplus of work
to do and a limited number of man hours available to do it.
I am happy to manage infrastructure (server, slaves) - but I am not
very capable at python or web development yet. As such, if I we work
with someone to get the services modified and installed somewhere, I
will put as much time as I can into making sure the infrastructure is
up and producing the desired output.
