There's a slight misunderstanding here, I think, [by both of us, probably]
I created my custom map (I'm virtually certain) from the US International
-- not "American", sorry -- using the Keymap preference. I have a 2nd 'CMD'
to the right of the spacebar, and the 'OPT' that was there is moved to what
was the R.H 'CTRL'. As the USI one has only one CMD, this means I must
have duplicated it somehow (and removed one CTRL). (And the Users Guide
says I should be able to do this.) What I was trying to say was that I can't
do this sort of duplication now. In fact now I can no longer create my
keymap from the USI one.

I made the map a couple of years ago, so I guess things must have
changed. My point, though, is that it *should* be possible to move,
duplicate, and delete key roles arbitrarily to suit one's needs using
Keymap.
