Well...it's pretty easy to replicate here - using the anyboot image on
a USB stick to prepare and install to a partition.

Furthermore, it seems the post_install scripts never get executed on
the target partition after installation/reboot... that seems like a
problem.

I'm not sure what else I can provide here... but something is definitely wrong.
