I just did an "informal poll" on my Windows XP machine and here are the results:
- FireFox just uses the "pacman"
- iTunes uses "Copyright pacman"
- uTorrent just uses the pacman
- VMWare uses "Copyright pacman"
- Internet Explorer (and other MS software) uses "Copyright pacman"
- AIM uses "Copyright pacman"
- Media Player Classic uses "Copyright (C)"
- Putty just uses the pacman
- FileZilla uses "Copyright (C)"
- 7-zip uses "Copyright (c)"
- Google Video Player just uses the pacman
- KeyNote uses "Copyright (c)"
- Nero just uses "(c)"
- Directory Opus uses "Copyright pacman"
So really using "Copyright pacman" (or "Copyright (C)") is pretty common.
But according to http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ03.html, the
pacman (or c in a circle) can be used or the word Copyright (and
apparently Copr.) can be used. So I suppose using both is redundant.
But I don't think it hurts ;)
