Yes, I did both. It did work for me on an intel_extreme card at the
time, and gave a slight boost in FPS with the test app I used (the one
that comes with SDL I believe).
I emailed you the patch privately if you wanna take a peek. There was
also some code to avoid the cursor patch that was done by a GCI
student, as that seemed to crash in combination with the GL
directmode.
