Depends - if a newer/different firmware version usually requires a
newer/different driver then this would be okay. Otherwise it needs a
bit more maintenance effort to keep both in sync.
In any case, I saw the scanning part as a feature in order to get rid
of the settings files :-)
Having it in the glue code should work good enough, though.
