r35126 makes that technically feasible, should I go ahead and update
find_directory()?

How are you defining "files that are shared between users"? As in
files deleted that aren't within the confines of the user's home dir?
If so, we could when we go that route have a (for lack of a better
term) /trash/common subdir that the trash iteration looks at for all
users.
