 Ok, part of the problem may be that you are mistaken about the purpose of
 the volume slider. At it's middle position, the volume is at 100%. With a
 correctly mixed track, the peak meter will go all the way to the right for
 the loudest parts of the track. At it's right position, the volume shall
 be increased by factor 2. This is only useful for tracks which for some
 reason are too quiet. A correctly mixed track will have bad distortion at
 factor 2, and the peak meter will show it.
