From the syslog output the device seems to be recognized properly, but
there's no partitioning scanning/publishing. That could be a problem on
various levels, including USB mass storage. To verify that can you please
try opening the raw device at /dev/disk/usb/x/y/z/raw with DiskProbe. If
reading the device this way works, the problem would be somewhere further
down the line.
