Comment:

I noticed that there are several problems with some HP/Compaq Laptops that
were also present in linux and have been fixed some years ago. I'm using a
nc8430 laptop and there are two big problems (haiku build 35629):

 - The internal keyboard and synaptics touchpad doesn't work at all. Both
are attached by PS/2. An external USB keyboard and usb mouse does work.

 - After shutting haiku down the machine is in a "bad state" described on
 http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/HP_Compaq_nc8430#Noticed_ACPI_Issuses:

"The systems stays in BIOS for about 30 second before proceeding next to
boot the operating system. This is called "bad ACPI state" and you can
only get the system from this state by turning the machine off and even
removing the batery for a while."

This issue has been fixed in linux by this commit:

 {{{
 commit a1cec06177386ecc320af643de11cfa77e8945bd
 Author: Dmitry Torokhov <dtor@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
 Date: Sun Feb 18 01:40:24 2007 -0500

Input: psmouse - properly reset mouse on shutdown/suspend

Some people report that they need psmouse module unloaded
for suspend to ram/disk to work properly. Let's make port
cleanup behave the same way as driver unload.

This fixes "bad state" roblem on various HP laptops, such
     as nx7400.
