[hackpgh-discuss] Re: universal construction kit

Yup, LEGOs are pretty damn close, even for toys.

Something else I learned the hard way is how much ABS shrinks after printing. I was trying to make some 1/4" holes for pipe valve sockets and they kept coming out smaller than the inner-diameter of the threaded inserts. A little measuring later it came out that I was loosing between %1 and %3 on various parts of the model after I printed things out.

You'd be surprised at how tight the accuracy has to be. Too loose, no
friction fit. Too tight, you run the risk of ruining you legos. :/

Plus, is your makerbot accurate to the micron? :- )

Do Lego's really require micron resolution to snap together?!
