[hackpgh-discuss] TechShop coming to Pittsburgh

In case you haven't heard, DARPA is investing $3.5 million to bring
TechShops to Pittsburgh and Washington D.C.

Normal members will use the shop by day, and at night DARPA folks will come
in and work on secret advanced manufacturing.

I heard some rumblings about this at MakerFaire and this article is over a
week old, but I haven't seen any talk on the list about it.

While I was out for MakerFaire, I had the chance to visit the original
TechShop at Menlo Park and was blown away. It's like a professional
hackerspace with full time employees, well kept machines, and regular
classes on how to use them. Membership is $100/month and includes access to
Autodesk's full software suite. It's definitely a good thing that they're
coming to Pittsburgh but I'm not sure how it will impact us wrt membership,
etc.
