I've always thought it would be neat to create something wearable the could
"remap" a sense of touch to another part of the body using touch sensors and
haptic feedback. For people with neurological conditions like MS, being able
to dynamically remap touch - even just a relatively simple sense of pressure
- would help to more quickly adapt. If you had a wearable repositionable
touch sensor for input and the same with a haptic device for output with
something in-between to do the translation (android phone?), you could remap
it as it changed with disease progression.
How to do something like that is way over my head though, just something I
thought of tinkering around with years ago after seeing the impact of MS on
someone close.
