  Yes, it's hardware since, as was stated earlier, it plugs into a USB port.

  It is memory, since it has no moving parts.  However, it appears on your 
system as a disk drive, and can be treated in much the same way as a disk drive.

  Physically, most are about the size of your little finger.

  They are extremely handy if you want to copy files from one PC to another.

      It is simply a small piece of electronics, which acts just
      like a disk drive. 

      It may plug into an available USB port, or have a dedicated
      slot, depending on make and type.

      Very convenient for moving large files about.  They come in
      various sizes from a few Megabytes to around and even over a
      Gigabyte.
