Hi Dotty, This may not come as a surprise, but I got a cordial note from Freedom Scientific to the effect that Windisk does not work in the Vista environment and they apologize for the inconvenience. Yep, it sure is inconvenient. Just one more reason our old notetakers are living on borrowed time, I guess. That said, have you tried using Hyperterminal to transfer files using, say YModem? YModem is nice in that it supports multiple file transfer. The down side is that filenames tend to get twisted into a form of 8.3 format as they are sent or received by the Braille Lite. I think the file transfer protocols were created on those notetakers when folks were mostly using DOS machines, so they converted the filenames to DOS-compatible format as a courtesy to the user. Oh, I was just looking at the file "programs.txt" that came with a recent (relatively) firmware update. It talks about how to do a backup of a bunch of files from your notetaker using the qback.bns program. qback might be a nice way to save a bunch of files off your notetaker. It doesn't say anything about directories, so I suspect you'd wind up with everything together in one directory when you were done. There's just no two ways about it: We're going to miss Windisk. Hello, Jerry, I have exactly the same problem. I can also see the files but cannot transfer across. I have tried to find another program which will work but have not had any luck. Please keep us posted if you find anything that will help and I will do likewise. The current, and paid, version of Hyperterminal seems only to have Telnet, which I don't think will do. I would appreciate any solution anyone might have short of telling me to buy a new note taker. Hi all, I still use a Braille Lite 40 which forces me to do file transfers over a serial port for loading, saving, backing up, restoring and so forth. I just got a Windows Vista laptop for home and am trying to use WinDisk with it. I bought a USB to serial converter cable to add a serial port to this new computer since serial ports are getting rather scarce these days. Thus far I have managed to get to where the WinDisk program does see the files and folders on the Braille Lite, but any time I attempt to copy a file across the connection between the computer and notetaker, I get an immediate clang from Vista and generally an error box that just says "Error" with an OK button. Does anybody have ideas for making this work? Yeah, I know, I should probably buy a Pac Mate or a Braille Note, but I work for the auto industry, and things aren't all that cozy in that particular industry right now, and braille devices continue to be frightfully expensive. Thanks, Jerry
