I have never met Katy Manning. I have met the late Liz Sladen, and she was a very genuine, caring person, as well as a brilliant Doctor Who Companion. I've been to a few conventions of 'Whovians' - the sad individuals who enjoy all things Doctor- ish. Those who went didn't take themselves too seriously...unlike the Trekkies - Star Trek fans. I've been to a couple of their conventions as well...you couldn't move for Federation officers, Romulans, Vulcans and Klingons, all earnestly debating the series, the books, the films and the Star Trek Universe as if it were a nuclear physics seminar. A friend of mine is the Scottish president of the Doctor Who fan club....he's a minister. His study door is painted like the TARDIS; when he's not wearing clerical collar - which is quite often, as he says he isn't a dog, so doesn't need a collar - he sports a flashing Doctor Who tie, and, if he's really daft - which he is, most of the time, he wears a Tom Baker Doctor Who scarf. Not a shop bought one; the real thing, from the set of the "Genesis of the Daleks" story. -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Kay - Email Address: ebeth.kay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 31/08/2012 13:54 Sent To: Guide.chat - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] Katy Manning Thanks Vanessa for this tribute to Katy Manning. You are a gem. It sounds as though Katy was a much loved friend and colleague as well as a talented actress. I do hope she still remembers some of this. Memories are so important in later life.
